Extending a helping hand, for a better tomorrow!

Giving social services had always been in my big picture. I’d always felt the need to help the unfortunate but didn’t know where to start from.

My mother advised “all the good deeds start from home” and I thought to myself, “God really works in mysterious ways”.

I took the cue and started giving Maths tuition to girls and charged nothing. I wanted to do more hence, I joined UPAY three years ago. I appeared there as a volunteer but soon got promoted and became the zonal presiding officer!

As the new officer, I got the opportunity to put forward my idea of conducting awareness programs for the girls about menstruation, feminine hygiene, and personal safety guidelines. These programs changed the perception of the children as they see things and left a commendable impact on their lives. My colleagues help me a lot and put in immense efforts and, I believe this is the finest team I could have asked for.

People here at UPAY are abetting and harmonious. They have helped me in every stride of the way. I believe it to be the most convenient and accessible environment to work and, that is what makes UPAY unique.

Some time ago, we arranged an event where I had to train a girl for her play on ‘save the girl child’. It was her first time, so she was quite nervous before going up on the stage but once she started her part, everybody went silent. In a split second, there were whistles and loud claps for her splendid performance. I felt so proud to see her happiness and a newfound confidence that it made me ecstatic.

“As we lose ourselves in the service of others, we discover our own lives and our happiness”.

Dieter F. Uchtdof

I, now, concede every word that’s quoted. While teaching all the underprivileged children, I didn’t only focus on teaching but also learned something so important that it became my motto.

I realized that true happiness doesn’t lie in materialistic things but in every little thing that matters. We can be content in whatever we have without asking and expecting for more. Working with these kids has changed my perception; I developed a positive outlook and, the same is the message I want to convey to everyone.
