Where there is a will, there’s a way!

This post is for people who are looking for something positive, for a change. This post wants to demonstrate that where there is a will, there is a way.
The story started when the entire country went into lockdown and all schools and colleges were shut. While some children were happy that their schools and colleges were suspended as they could get more time for themselves, some children feared for their shot at education. These were children dependent on NGOs like UPAY who might not have been able to provide them with an education in these conditions.
Fast forward a lot of panics and worry on the part of both the educators and the students, comes the day of the volunteers meeting, where the idea of online classes was raised. The volunteers discussed the necessity but one thing that was going to prevent them from doing it was the limited access of smartphones with the children.
The team unanimously decided to start online classes with as many children as possible. The first online class was conducted by UPAY in the Gurugram zone and this inspired many more children and teachers to attend and conduct these classes.
What is praiseworthy is that the biggest problem encountered by volunteers relating to the unavailability of phones was solved by the children themselves! They started sharing mobile phones with up to 4 children sharing the same phone and ensured a stable internet connection throughout the class.
This further encouraged more teachers and students and soon this turned into a movement, with 13 volunteers and more than 45 students! These classes incorporated all kinds of activities besides the curriculum like dancing, yoga and even drawing to challenge the children and nurture them in different ways!
If you want to measure the success of these classes, will you measure it in the level of the children’s creativity or by their smiles? Whichever way you think of it, it is a win-win because for us, another child has been empowered and another child has a chance at a better life now.
Today, we are proud to have ensured education for these children who fought against all hardships to study.
These children could have easily sat at home doing nothing, no one could have forced them to take these classes but they took these classes because of their determination, discipline and sheer will.
This pandemic has been very tough for everyone but stories like these help us hope for a better future where everyone can get opportunities for a shot at a better life.
Please be safe and stay at home! May all these days in quarantine teach you to be mindful and thankful for the tiniest things in life and may you find the strength to toil on in the face of hardships!
